Dr. Mike Radice

Goodbye summer, hello fall!

September is upon us. Summer travel has wound down and our routines become a little more “routine”, but still hectic. This is an important time to think about taking care of our health and wellness, before the holidays take over and our “routines” go out the window. We’ve included an excellent intro to the therapeutic benefits of massage as well as noting how a consistent plan to healing and health can be especially beneficial. Please read and feel free to contact us with any questions. Also, we want to extend a big “Welcome Back” to Allison Hollister, as she returns from maternity leave. We’re all looking forward to having her back with us at RFC.

Why Massage Therapy is More Than Just a “Feel Good”

Our knowledge of history shows that every major civilization has had a type of “hands on” therapy as a vital part of health and healing. In our society, everyone seems to know that a massage ‘feels good’ but what makes massage therapy prominent in healthcare are its evidence based therapeutic benefits. Today’s Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) is regulated and well trained to treat primarily the soft tissues of the body such as fascia, muscles, tendons, etc. Releasing ‘knots’ or spasms in muscles has been shown to help them function in better coordination with their neighboring tissues. Repeated postures, poor sleep and other stressors can cause poor functional patterns. This can lead to chronic pain syndromes such as back pain, fibromyalgia and headaches. Massage therapy can help!

Care from one of our massage therapists are covered under most extended health plans, call today to schedule your massage!

Healing Takes Time

One of the oldest principles propagated by the healing arts and eastern philosophy is that “there is no process that does not require time.” Yet in today’s fast paced society where tasks have to be done yesterday, it can be frustrating when things do not heal as fast as we hope. When it comes to health problems, the principle of time is applied no differently. In our youth, health issues come and go but as we move forward in years, these issues linger around longer and longer. This is because our adaptive capacity when we are younger is better, but as we get older our systems get bogged down by stressors such as work, poor dietary habits and lack of movement.

If these issues are not addressed, our bodies lose touch with the inherent capacity of self-healing and we begin to mal-adapt and hence begins the disease processes that solidify over time. It could be decades later that we start having symptoms of a disease or a disorder. In order to minimize frustration for the suffering patient and the doctor, remember that just like the disease was a process that took time to develop, so is the healing…a process that may take time.

The best way to accelerate this is by allowing the body to work at its’ optimal capacity, free from nervous system ‘clutter’ through chiropractic adjustment, proper diet and exercise. After that, all that is required is patience and a constant reminder that “there is no process that does not require time”.

Schedule your next adjustment today so we can help your body get back on the healing track!
